Early Church of Jerusalem Cheatsheet
Have you ever wondered about what the organization of the Church looked like during the first century? Our post about St. Zacchaeus of Jerusalem, celebrated on August 23rd, provides some information about who the leaders in the Church were, but it doesn’t go in much depth about how Zacchaeus fits into the broader story of how the Church in Jerusalem evolved during its early years. Keeping this in mind, we designed another church history educational printable that puts Zacchaeus into context and makes it a bit easier to decipher the importance of the role of bishops in the beginning of the Church!
First you’ll find an overview of how the church in Jerusalem grew after the Acts of the Apostles and what role bishops held in the institution’s organization. Below that you will find a timeline that situates the lives of the apostles and first bishops of the Church in chronological order. Finally, there is a closer look at the famous historian Eusebius as well as St. Zacchaeus himself. Check out the document below and our list of the few sources available on this obscure character!
