Council of Ephesus Cheatsheet
The Ecumenical Council of Ephesus is yet another important landmark in the history of Christendom. With the First Council of Nicaea behind them, the theologians that came together at Ephesus were less focused on articulating the doctrine of the Trinity as a whole but directed their attention now to the person of Christ and what it means that God became flesh. The political and theological controversies that helped produce our language and articulation of the Godhead led us to explore this council deeper and design a printable to shed some clarity and context on the council.
First is a summary of the council itself. Below that you will find a timeline that puts a couple of notable people and events in chronological order. Finally, there is a closer look at two of the main players at the Council of Ephesus: Cyril of the Alexandrian school and Nestorius of the Antiochene school of the East. And as always, we included our sources, which we also commend to you for further reading and listening!
